CALLING ALL EVANGELICAL CHURCHES!

The much awaited INTER-CHURCH BASKETBALL LEAGUE (ICBL) MAYOR'S CUP SEVENTEENTH CONFERENCE is set to start on February 23 to May 04, 2008 at the Davao City Recreation Center (formerly Almendras Gym).

This Seventeenth Conference will have two (2) Divisions:

Division One will allow church-teams with Commercial (A or B) & Collegiate/University Varsity Players (Current or SY June, 2005-March, 2006).

Division Two will only be for church-teams whose players have not played in any Commercial Leagues (A or B) or whose players are not members of any Collegiate/University Varsity Teams from SY March, 2008 to June, 2005. Varsity Players who graduated SY March, 2005 can join this division provided they have not participated in any commercial leagues.

Upon screening by the ICBL Technical Committee, the organizers reserves the right to decide the eligibility of each player based on our own investigation.

New Church-Teams participating in the tournament must submit a "Letter Of Intent" signed by their Senior Pastor. After approval by the ICBL Executive Board, they will be asked to attend a sports ministry seminar before they will submit their requirements.

BEATITUDES CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP NIPPED MAA ALLIANCE CHURCH 87-83 in Game 2 of the Best-Of-Three Series Championship round to win the Sixteeth Conference Title in the ongoing Inter-Church Basketball League (ICBL) Duterte Cup Sixteenth Conference over at the Davao City Recreation Center (formerly Almendras Gym) last November 25, Sunday.

The Sulpicio Lines backed Beatitudes Christian Fellowship of Pastor Alex Villanueva started strong in the early part of the ballgame as they were determined to wrapped up the quest for another ICBL title against the veteran Maa Alliance Church of Pastor Samuel Sales. Merdardo Ongcoy of Beatitudes topscored with 16 points while former veteran player Immanuel “Nonoy” Bonleon topscored with 23 points on a losing cause. Sharpshooter Charlie Rosauro of Beatitudes was awarded as the Most Valuable Player Award.

In earlier game, Good Shepherd Church of Pastor Danilo Gomia took third place as they walloped newcomer Deeper Life Church 91-86.

Pastor Gary Visitacion, ICBL National Director said that “once again we had a very exciting conference. We would like to thank our sponsors from the City Mayor’s Office, City Sports Division Office headed by Mr. Christopher “Bong” Go and the BAP/Samahang Baskitbolista ng Pilipinas. The ICBL Mayor’s Cup Seventeenth Conference will be on Febuary 09, 2008. We plan to have Division 1 and Division 2 in the upcoming conference.”

The Sulpicio Lines sponsored Beatitudes Christian Fellowship of Pastor Alex Villanueva took charged only in the midway of the second quarter with a 10-0 against the veteran Maa Alliance Church of Pastor Samuel Sales. The dynamic duo of highleaper Arnold Garces and sharpshooter Charlie Rosauro combined with 38 points while Dondie Dabon topscored for Maa Alliance with 15 points on a losing cause. Beatitudes led by 8 points at the first canto 47-39.

Game 2 Finals will be played on November 25, Sunday at the Almendras gym right after the battle for third place at 1:00 pm between Good Shepherd Church and Deeper Life Church. If necessary, Game 3 will be played on December 02, Sunday at 2:00 pm at the Almendras gym.

TITLECONTENDERS BEATITUDES CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP AND MA-A ALLIANCE CHURCH won their respective semifinal round games in the ongoing Inter-Church Basketball League (ICBL) Duterte Cup Sixteenth Conference last November 18, Sunday over at the Bankerohan Gym, Davao City.

The Sulpicio Lines sponsored Beatitudes Christian Fellowship of Pastor Alex Villanueva shocked the highly favorite defending champion Good Shepherd Church 90-80 in their semifinal round knock-out match. Beatitudes struggled in their offense in the first half but highleaper Arnold Garces and sharpshooter Vicente Pedrera took matters in their own hands as they combined a total of 35 points. Good Shepherd Church of Pastor Danilo Gomia dynamic duo of former MVP Edwin Abillero and Cyril Cawaling combined a total of 30 points on a losing cause. Beatitudes led by 9 points at the first canto 48-39.

In earlier game, Maa Alliance Church bested newcomer Deeper Life Church 110-100 to enter the finals. Maa Alliance Church led all the way in the early part of the ballgame but former Davao Eagles Arvin Bonleon connected with 2 consecutive 3 point shots to take the lead with 24 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. Maa Alliance Playmaker Alvin Pepito tospscored with 24 points while Deeper Life pointguard Mark Nayal topscored with 26 points on a losing cause.

ICBL Duterte Cup Best-Of-Three Series Championship Game 1 Finals will start on November 24, Saturday at 10:00 am at the Almendras Gym. Game 2 will be played on November 25, Sunday right after the Battle for Third Place between Good Shepherd Church and Deeper Life Church at 1:30 pm. Game 3 if necessary, will be played on December 01, Saturday at the Almendras Gym.

ICBL 17TH CONFERENCE: NEW FORMAT

THE INTER-CHURCH BASKETBALL LEAGUE (ICBL) EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE headed by Pastor Gary V. Visitacion, CSC will have two (2) divisions when the ICBL Seventeenth Season unveils this coming February 09 to April 27, 2008.

As part of our evaluation, this last conference we had a number of former commercial, college/university varsity players playing in our league. We also saw a lot of new, young upcoming players join ICBL. In order to balance the competition, we will be having Division 1 (for teams having current/former commercial players, former & current active college/university players in their line-up) and Division 2 (for teams having no current/former commercial A & B players, no former/active college/university varsity players). Players who are playing under the College Division 2 teams of the Gaisano South Cup 2007 are considered regular players and will be allowed to play as regular players under ICBL Divison 2.

More information will be dessiminated to interested churches who will join the ICBL Seventeenth Conference this coming February, 2008.

DEFENDING CHAMPION GOOD SHEPHERD CHURCH WALLOPED WINLESS UNITED METHODIST CHURCH 107-60 to grabbed the last semifinals birth in the ongoing Inter-Church Basketball League Duterte Cup at the Davao City Recreation Center (formerly Almendras Gym).

Good Shepherd Church of Pastor Danilo Gomia showed no mercy from the opening tiff off of the ballgame. The never-say-die attitude of the Coach Rolando Sancho mentored will face the number one team Beatitudes Christian Fellowship of Pastor Alex Villanueva. Mark Maputi topscored for GSC with 14 points while Jasper del Rosario of UMC topscored with 13 points on a losing cause.

In the maingame, the Sulpicio Lines backed Beatitudes Christian Fellowship continued its winning streak when they shocked Deeper Life Church 100-95.

In their own semifinal match, Maa Alliance Church of Pastor Samuel Sales will face the youthful Deeper Life Church of Pastor Dick Togonon. Winners of both semifinal match will face each other for the best-of-three series championship game.

The semifinal round is set to be played this coming November 18, Sunday at the Almendras Gym starting at 1:30 pm Maa Alliance Church plays Deeper Life Church to be followed by the defending champion Good Shepherd Church battling Beatitudes Christian Fellowship.

DEFENDING CHAMPION GOOD SHEPHERD CHURCH DUMPED TEMPLE OF PRAISE CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP 88-69 in the ongoing Inter-Church Basketball League (ICBL) Duterte Cup Sixteenth Conference at the Davao City Recreation Center (formerly Almendras Gym) last November 04, Sunday.

The Good Shepherd Church of Pastor Danilo Gomia kept their hopes alive for a semifinal birth when they won against Temple Of Praise Christian Fellowship of Pastor Wilfredo R. Calisang. Holy Cross Stalwart Rodolfo Duran topscored for Good Shepherd with 23 points while Rhean Telewik and Leo Lascano had 13 points apiece on a losing cause.

It was also a emotional game for Cebu-bound Temple of Praise pointguard Rofranco P. Suico who bid goodbye to his teammates as he will be playing for Asian College Of Technology (ACT) under the mentorship of Coach Lawrence “Tata” Merced in Cebu City starting this November. Suico who averages 24 points per game, 3 rebounds & 5 assists caught the eye first of Coach Alfonso “Al” Solis who was recently in Davao for the 2nd ICBL Invitational League. He personally endorsed Suico to play for ACT.

Pastor Gary Visitacion, ICBL National Director said that “this is not the first time that some of our players playing for ICBL has been discovered by our league partners in Cebu City. Last January, during the 1st ICBL Invitational League in Cebu, two (2) of our players from River Of God Church were also offered to play for a University in Cebu City. Frank Suico is our third player being discovered in ICBL. We are very happy & proud of his achievements. He will receive full scholarship at ACT, free board & lodging and a monthly allowance.”

ICBL games this November 10, Saturday, starting at 1:30pm defending champion Good Shepherd Church battles United Methodist, at 3:00 pm Beatitudes Christian Fellowship will face Temple Of Praise Christian Fellowship and at 4:30 pm Maa Alliance Church plays Real Life Ministries. THE MINISTRY-ORIENTED ACES-LIVING WORD CHRISTIAN MINISTRIES FROM CEBU CITY proved that they are much prepared and ready to grabbed the championship title when they shocked the Beatitudes Christian Fellowship 84-75 in the winner take all Inter-Church Basketball League Mayor’s Cup Invitational Tournament at the Gaisano South Citimall Skygym, Ilustre Street, Davao City last October 31, Wednesday.

The Cebuanos took a strong start in the first quarter as American player Joshua Manthe together with bullstrong Jojo “Baby Shaq” Omandan controlled the boards. But the Sulpicio backed Beatitudes Christian Fellowship mentored by Allan Josol tried to hang on as they were trailing the Cebuanos in the first half. The Alfonso “Al” Solis mentored Aces-Cebu finally had a 8-0 run in the final quarter to grabbed the title from the Davawenos. University of Visayas Michael Cantonao won the Most Valuable Player Award and topscored with 23 points while former Holy Child Stalwart Charlie Rosauro of Beatitudes had 13 points on a losing cause.

In the earlier game, Good Shepherd Church of Pastor Danilo Gomia won third place as they nipped Temple Of Praise Christian Fellowship of Pasor Wilfredo R. Calisang 79-69.

Pastor Gary Visitacion, ICBL National Director said that “We would like to thank all our sponsors for their support because without them our tournament will never be successful. Also I am happy to announce that the Third ICBL Invitational Tournament will be held in Metro Manila to be hosted by ICBL-Manila on October, 2008.”

My First Sunday Sermon in Davao!

The ACES Basketball Team, a ministry of Living Word Christian Ministries of Pastor Mel Caparros based in Cebu City was invited to minister at Grace Baptist Church, a fundamental baptist church of ABWAY.

We visit this church at least once a month to minister to the congregation. One of the reasons why we support this church is that Pastor Sam Pascual who is the Senior Pastor is also into sports ministry. His church has been part of ICBL for the last nine (9) years.

Timothy Joseph or TJ as he fondly called was assigned to share the message that. TJ was just recently commissioned to be a minister just last October 21 in their church in Cebu City.

When TJ was sharing the message, I could really feel the Holy Spirit ministering to all of us. I was just blessed by the testimony of this young man who gave his life to the Lord at a very young age. Pastor Sam even mentioned before the end of the service that he would like to invite TJ again in their church.

I believe that TJ and even the whole ACES team has been a blessing to the churches here in Davao and even to the young players.

To TJ, Grace and I are so proud of you!

We pray that our partnership in the sports ministry would continue to give glory & honor to our God.

THE ACES-LIVING WORD CHRISTIAN MINISTRIES BASED IN CEBU CITY is set to arrive this weekend for the upcoming Inter-Church Basketball League (ICBL) Mayor’s Cup Invitational Tournament which is set to begin this coming October 27-31, 2007 at the Gaisano South Citimall Skygym.

The Aces-Living Word Christian Ministries of Pastor Mel Caparros will be mentored by former PBA Player and MVBA Arthro Kontra Arthritis Head Coach Alfonso “Al” Solis. Leading the cast are American Division 1 player Joshua Manthe 6’9, Arthro stalwart Lody Garcia 6’3, Tidol Reyes 6’1, Fritz Gonzales 6’2, Ryan Arpay 6’1 and playmaker and spitfire TJ Caparros 5’9.

Earlier this year, the Aces-Living Word bowed to the defending champion Beatitudes Christian Fellowship of Pastor Alex Villanueva during the 1st ICBL Invitional Tournament held in Cebu City last Janaury, 2007. But Aces-Living Word has reinforced their line-up with high leaper Joshua Manthe, bullstrong Lordy Garcia & spitfire TJ Caparros.

Four (4) church-teams are set to participate in the five (5) league. The Sulpicio Lines backed Beatitudes Christian Fellowship of Pastor Alex Villanueva managed to take control only in the final minutes of the ballgame after trailing from the opening tip off. Former Holy Child Reds player Charlemagne Rosauro topscored for Beatitudes with 18 points while former MVP Edwin Abillero topscored for Good Shepherd with 28 points on a losing cause. Good Shepherd led by 8 points at the first canto 44-36.

In the earlier game, titlecontender Maa Alliance Church of Pastor Samuel Sales continued it’s winning streak by dumping Temple Of Praise Christian Fellowship of Pastor Wilfredo R. Calisang 119-108. John Mark Pinto and Carlo Pinto topscored with 15 points apiece while Rofranco Suico topscored 29 points on a losing cause.

ICBL games will resume this coming October 21, Sunday at the Almendras Gym. Maa Alliance Church will face United Methodist Church at 1:00 pm. While Deeper Life Church plays Real Life Ministries at 2:30 pm. In the maingame, Beatitudes Christian Fellowship battles winless First Davao Missionary Baptist Church at 4:00 pm. No ICBL games will be scheduled on October 20, Saturday.

TITLECONTENDER MAA ALLIANCE CHURCH SHOCKED DEFENDING CHAMPION GOOD SHEPHERD CHURCH 88-79 in the ongoing Inter-Church Basketball League (ICBL) Duterte Cup Sixteenth Conference over at the Davao City Recreational Center (formerly Almendras Gym) last October 07, Sunday.

The Maa Alliance Church of Pastor Samuel Sales showed to much veteran moves in the early part of the ballgame. Former Holy Child Stalwart John Mark Pinto topscored for Alliance with 29 points while former MVP Edwin Abillero topscored for Good Shepherd with 18 points on a losing cause. Maa Alliance Church led by 8 points at the first Canto 46-38.

In the maingame, the Sulpicio Lines backed Beatitudes Christian Fellowship of Pastor Alex Villanueva walloped newcomer Real Life Ministries of Pastor Emmanuel Marzon 121-72. Aldy Herbulario topscored for Beatitudes with 20 points while Jonesio Bacaro topscored for Real Life with 16 points on a losing cause. Beatitudes led by 23 points at the first canto 60-37.

ICBL games will resume this coming October 13, Saturday. Winless First Davao Missionary Baptist Church battles fellow cellar dweller United Methodist Church at 1:30 pm. Defending champion Good Shepherd Church will face the dangerous Deeper Life Church at 3:00 pm.

BAP/SBP Executive Director

After months of just talking over the phone, finally I have met our new BAP/SBP Executive Director Patrick C. Gregorio. Patrick who flew in Friday night (September 28) met with Regino "Boy" Cua, BAP Regional Director together with some media personalities and myself to discuss the programs that his office is spearheading.

Gregorio said "We will have national training center and a nationwide inter-collegiate league." He said the national inter-collegiate league won't be in any way compete with existing tournaments like the Champions League of veteran Coach Joe Lipa. Gregorio added "They can continue with their programs, since theirs are private initiative, while we are still conceptualizing the BAP/SBP program."

It was a very fruitful meeting. Patrick is a man of vision plus he wants to see that our basketball development program in the country will really start in the grassroots level.

To Patrick, more power to you my friend!

Deeper Life Church wallops UMC 85-71

TITLECONTENDER DEEPER LIFE CHURCH CONTINUED IT’S WINNING STREAK AS THEY WALLOPED UNITED METHODIST CHURCH 85-71 in the ongoing Inter-Church Basketball League (ICBL) Duterte Cup Sixteenth Conference over at the Davao City Recreational Center (formerly Almendras Gym).

The Pastor Dick Togonon managed Deeper Life Church took control of the ballgame in the early part of the first half. Mark Nayal continued to be the lead scorer for DLC with 21 points while Jasper del Rosario topscored for UMC with 20 points on a losing cause. DLC led by 20 points at the first canto.

In the maingame. Newcomer Real Life Ministries of Pastor Emmanuel Marzon entered the winning column by dumping highly favored Temple Of Praise Christian Fellowship 101-93. Mariano Ramos of RLM topscored with 21 points while Jestony Gonzales topscored for TOPCF with 22 points on a losing cause.

ICBL games will resume this coming October 06, Saturday at the Almendras Gym. Temple Of Praise Christian Fellowship battles First Davao Missionary Baptist Church at 1:30 pm to be followed by the game between Real Life Ministries and United Methodist Church at 3:00 pm.

THE DEFENDING CHAMPION GOOD SHEPHERD CHURCH made their presence felt when they demolished newcomer First Davao Missionary Baptist Church 96-73 in the opening day last September 23, Sunday of the Inter-Church Basketball League (ICBL) Duterte Cup Sixteenth Conference over at the Davao City Recreational Center (formerly Almendras Gym).

Former MVP Edwin Abillero Jr. of Good Shepherd Church scored game-high of 15 points while Mineheart Adlawan topscored for FDMBC with 17 points on a losing cause. The Pastor Danilo Gomia managed Good Shepherd Church took control of in the early part of the ballgame. Good Shepherd led by 17 points at the first canto 52-35.

The Sulpicio Lines backed Beatitudes Christian Fellowship drew first blood as they walloped the highly veteran Ma-a Alliance Church116-79. The Allan Josol mentored Beatitudes Christian Fellowship also sponsored by Ed Sandoval of Joysans Tailoring showed too much firepower as they led the Ma-a Alliance Church with 9 points at the first canto 57-48. Beatitudes Gener Orlain topscored with 16 points while former Holy Child Stalwart John Pinto topscored for Ma-a Alliance with 13 points on a losing cause.

Nine (9) church-teams are currently participating in the ICBL Duterte Cup Sixteenth Conference. They will play a single round robin. Top four teams will proceed to the semifinal round (1 vs 4 & 2 vs 3), winners will proceed to the best-of-three championship round while the losers will play for third place.

ICBL games will be played every Saturdays and Sundays at the Almendras Gym starting at 1:30 pm.

All is set for the set of the Inter-Church Basketball League (ICBL) Duterte Cup Sixteenth Conference this comng September 23, 2007 Sunday at the Davao City Recreational Center (formerly Almendras Gym).

A total of Eight (8) Church-teams will participate in this tournament headed by back-to-back champion Good Shepherd Church of Pastor Danilo Gomia, the Sulpicio Lines backed Beatitudes Christian Fellowship of Pastor Alex Villanueva, Ma-a Alliance Church of Pastor Samuel Sales, Temple Of Praise Christian Fellowship of Pastor Wilfredo Calisang together with newcomers Real Life Ministries of Pastor Eman Marzon, First Missionary Baptist Church of Pastor William Rodriguez, United Methodist Church of Pastor David Casmiano and Deeper Life Church of Pastor Dick Togonon.

Two games are set to be played after a short opening ceremony set at 1:00 PM. The eight church-teams will play a single round robin where the top four teams will proceed to semifinal round. The number one team will face number four while number two plays number three team in a knock-out match. Winners will proceed to the best-of-three championship series while losers battles for third place.

ICBL games will be played every Saturdays and Sundays at the Almendras Gym starting at 1:30 PM.

ICBL 2007 NATIONAL TOURNAMENT

The Second Inter-Church Basketball League (ICBL) National Tournament will be on October 27-31, 2007 here in Davao City.

A total of Six (6) church-teams will be coming from Manila, Cebu City and Davao City. Representing Manila will be the Grace Gospel Church of Hans Dee and WIM-Cavite of Pastor Francisco B. Sanchez. Cebu City church-teams will be represented by Praise Cathedral of Coach Lawrence "Tata" Merced and Aces-Living Word of Coach Alfonso "Al" Solis. Our Davao City church-teams will be represented by River Of God of Pastor Blair Cuares and Grace Baptist Church of Pastor Samuel Pascual.

Pastor Gary Visitacion, ICBL National Director said that "I have met with the pastors and coaches of the different church-teams in Cebu and Manila. The church-teams that will be coming from Cebu and Manila will be very strong. I have advise our Davao teams to really prepare for this tournament. Currently, we are the defending champion."

Preparations are underway for this big event in Davao City. We are hoping that this will helped boost the interest of other evangelical churches to join ICBL in the future. As you all know already that ICBL is now a national league.

ICBL 16TH CONFERENCE SEPT. 08 TO NOV. 25, 2007

The much awaited Inter-Church Basketball League (ICBL) Cup 2007 Sixteenth Conference is set to begin this coming September 08 to November 25, 2007 at the Davao City Recreation Center (formerly Almendras Gym).

Only twelve (12) church-teams will be allowed to join in this current conference. The twelve church-teams will be divided into two brackets, each bracket will play a single round robin and the top four (4) church-teams will proceed to the quarterfinal round, then semifinal round of which winners will play for the best-of-three series championship round while the losers will play for third place.

Pastor Gary Visitacion, ICBL Director said "that we are very excited that once again it is ICBL season again. Currently, we are still screening the applicants for the Sixteenth Conference. Only those church-teams who are qualified to will be accepted by the ICBL executive committee."
