Beatitudes wins ICBL 16th Conference title


BEATITUDES CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP NIPPED MAA ALLIANCE CHURCH 87-83 in Game 2 of the Best-Of-Three Series Championship round to win the Sixteeth Conference Title in the ongoing Inter-Church Basketball League (ICBL) Duterte Cup Sixteenth Conference over at the Davao City Recreation Center (formerly Almendras Gym) last November 25, Sunday.

The Sulpicio Lines backed Beatitudes Christian Fellowship of Pastor Alex Villanueva started strong in the early part of the ballgame as they were determined to wrapped up the quest for another ICBL title against the veteran Maa Alliance Church of Pastor Samuel Sales. Merdardo Ongcoy of Beatitudes topscored with 16 points while former veteran player Immanuel “Nonoy” Bonleon topscored with 23 points on a losing cause. Sharpshooter Charlie Rosauro of Beatitudes was awarded as the Most Valuable Player Award.

In earlier game, Good Shepherd Church of Pastor Danilo Gomia took third place as they walloped newcomer Deeper Life Church 91-86.

Pastor Gary Visitacion, ICBL National Director said that “once again we had a very exciting conference. We would like to thank our sponsors from the City Mayor’s Office, City Sports Division Office headed by Mr. Christopher “Bong” Go and the BAP/Samahang Baskitbolista ng Pilipinas. The ICBL Mayor’s Cup Seventeenth Conference will be on Febuary 09, 2008. We plan to have Division 1 and Division 2 in the upcoming conference.”

Beatitudes nips Good Shepherd 111-67

TITLECONTENDER BEATITUDES CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP NIPPED MAA ALLIANCE CHURCH 111-67 in Game 1 of the Best-Of-Three Series Championship round in the ongoing Inter-Church Basketball League (ICBL) Duterte Cup Sixteenth Conference over at the Davao City Recreation Center (formerly Almendras Gym) last November 24, Saturday.

The Sulpicio Lines sponsored Beatitudes Christian Fellowship of Pastor Alex Villanueva took charged only in the midway of the second quarter with a 10-0 against the veteran Maa Alliance Church of Pastor Samuel Sales. The dynamic duo of highleaper Arnold Garces and sharpshooter Charlie Rosauro combined with 38 points while Dondie Dabon topscored for Maa Alliance with 15 points on a losing cause. Beatitudes led by 8 points at the first canto 47-39.

Game 2 Finals will be played on November 25, Sunday at the Almendras gym right after the battle for third place at 1:00 pm between Good Shepherd Church and Deeper Life Church. If necessary, Game 3 will be played on December 02, Sunday at 2:00 pm at the Almendras gym.

Beatitudes shocks Good Shepherd 90-80, enters finals

TITLECONTENDERS BEATITUDES CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP AND MA-A ALLIANCE CHURCH won their respective semifinal round games in the ongoing Inter-Church Basketball League (ICBL) Duterte Cup Sixteenth Conference last November 18, Sunday over at the Bankerohan Gym, Davao City.

The Sulpicio Lines sponsored Beatitudes Christian Fellowship of Pastor Alex Villanueva shocked the highly favorite defending champion Good Shepherd Church 90-80 in their semifinal round knock-out match. Beatitudes struggled in their offense in the first half but highleaper Arnold Garces and sharpshooter Vicente Pedrera took matters in their own hands as they combined a total of 35 points. Good Shepherd Church of Pastor Danilo Gomia dynamic duo of former MVP Edwin Abillero and Cyril Cawaling combined a total of 30 points on a losing cause. Beatitudes led by 9 points at the first canto 48-39.

In earlier game, Maa Alliance Church bested newcomer Deeper Life Church 110-100 to enter the finals. Maa Alliance Church led all the way in the early part of the ballgame but former Davao Eagles Arvin Bonleon connected with 2 consecutive 3 point shots to take the lead with 24 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. Maa Alliance Playmaker Alvin Pepito tospscored with 24 points while Deeper Life pointguard Mark Nayal topscored with 26 points on a losing cause.

ICBL Duterte Cup Best-Of-Three Series Championship Game 1 Finals will start on November 24, Saturday at 10:00 am at the Almendras Gym. Game 2 will be played on November 25, Sunday right after the Battle for Third Place between Good Shepherd Church and Deeper Life Church at 1:30 pm. Game 3 if necessary, will be played on December 01, Saturday at the Almendras Gym.

ICBL 17TH CONFERENCE: NEW FORMAT

THE INTER-CHURCH BASKETBALL LEAGUE (ICBL) EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE headed by Pastor Gary V. Visitacion, CSC will have two (2) divisions when the ICBL Seventeenth Season unveils this coming February 09 to April 27, 2008.

As part of our evaluation, this last conference we had a number of former commercial, college/university varsity players playing in our league. We also saw a lot of new, young upcoming players join ICBL. In order to balance the competition, we will be having Division 1 (for teams having current/former commercial players, former & current active college/university players in their line-up) and Division 2 (for teams having no current/former commercial A & B players, no former/active college/university varsity players). Players who are playing under the College Division 2 teams of the Gaisano South Cup 2007 are considered regular players and will be allowed to play as regular players under ICBL Divison 2.
More information will be dessiminated to interested churches who will join the ICBL Seventeenth Conference this coming February, 2008.

Good Shepherd wallops UMC 107-60, enters semis

DEFENDING CHAMPION GOOD SHEPHERD CHURCH WALLOPED WINLESS UNITED METHODIST CHURCH 107-60 to grabbed the last semifinals birth in the ongoing Inter-Church Basketball League Duterte Cup at the Davao City Recreation Center (formerly Almendras Gym).

Good Shepherd Church of Pastor Danilo Gomia showed no mercy from the opening tiff off of the ballgame. The never-say-die attitude of the Coach Rolando Sancho mentored will face the number one team Beatitudes Christian Fellowship of Pastor Alex Villanueva. Mark Maputi topscored for GSC with 14 points while Jasper del Rosario of UMC topscored with 13 points on a losing cause.

In the maingame, the Sulpicio Lines backed Beatitudes Christian Fellowship continued its winning streak when they shocked Deeper Life Church 100-95.

In their own semifinal match, Maa Alliance Church of Pastor Samuel Sales will face the youthful Deeper Life Church of Pastor Dick Togonon. Winners of both semifinal match will face each other for the best-of-three series championship game.

The semifinal round is set to be played this coming November 18, Sunday at the Almendras Gym starting at 1:30 pm Maa Alliance Church plays Deeper Life Church to be followed by the defending champion Good Shepherd Church battling Beatitudes Christian Fellowship.

Good Shepherd dumps Temple Of Praise 88-69

DEFENDING CHAMPION GOOD SHEPHERD CHURCH DUMPED TEMPLE OF PRAISE CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP 88-69 in the ongoing Inter-Church Basketball League (ICBL) Duterte Cup Sixteenth Conference at the Davao City Recreation Center (formerly Almendras Gym) last November 04, Sunday.
The Good Shepherd Church of Pastor Danilo Gomia kept their hopes alive for a semifinal birth when they won against Temple Of Praise Christian Fellowship of Pastor Wilfredo R. Calisang. Holy Cross Stalwart Rodolfo Duran topscored for Good Shepherd with 23 points while Rhean Telewik and Leo Lascano had 13 points apiece on a losing cause.
It was also a emotional game for Cebu-bound Temple of Praise pointguard Rofranco P. Suico who bid goodbye to his teammates as he will be playing for Asian College Of Technology (ACT) under the mentorship of Coach Lawrence “Tata” Merced in Cebu City starting this November. Suico who averages 24 points per game, 3 rebounds & 5 assists caught the eye first of Coach Alfonso “Al” Solis who was recently in Davao for the 2nd ICBL Invitational League. He personally endorsed Suico to play for ACT.
Pastor Gary Visitacion, ICBL National Director said that “this is not the first time that some of our players playing for ICBL has been discovered by our league partners in Cebu City. Last January, during the 1st ICBL Invitational League in Cebu, two (2) of our players from River Of God Church were also offered to play for a University in Cebu City. Frank Suico is our third player being discovered in ICBL. We are very happy & proud of his achievements. He will receive full scholarship at ACT, free board & lodging and a monthly allowance.”
ICBL games this November 10, Saturday, starting at 1:30pm defending champion Good Shepherd Church battles United Methodist, at 3:00 pm Beatitudes Christian Fellowship will face Temple Of Praise Christian Fellowship and at 4:30 pm Maa Alliance Church plays Real Life Ministries.
